I’ve been biking to work on and off since my last post and today is the first time CalTrain has failed me.
I biked over the the Mountain View station to catch the 8:59 train. Once it arrived I was met with the conductor telling me and the other bikers that there’s no more room. Had to wait another 30 mins for the next one to arrive…sigh
This time I caught the baby bullet and made it to work pretty fast. Only other problem was that I arrived with only a few minutes to spare. In the process of buying my pass I bought a zone 3 to zone 1 pass. When I saw zone 1 I thought 1 zone perfect. Only after getting in did I notice my mistake oops.
Will try to go again and more often as I actually enjoy the ride.
Tiff and I flew down for the fourth cause I had my friend’s wedding to go to.
Flew down in the moring and barely made it on time. Seriously minutes after we walked in the ceremony began.
It was a nice smallish wedding at Cannons in Data Point. The day was not too hot and both bride and groom were pretty accessible the whole time. Also, open bar…or rather prepaid bar, but we never hit the limit. Doing our duty we had Mac 18, Blue Label, and Jameson.
The wedding finished up after the fireworks. We had to take off a little early due to meeting up with the fam. The drive home was pretty rough even tho we left kinda early. 30 mins to the freeway at least.
I took a bunch of photos that I still need to process…oh well.
I am going to embark on a quest to bike to work more.
I’ve invested about 120 dollars into a floor pump, some Shimano MTB Shoes, and some cleats for my Time ATAC pedals (it was truly hard to pedal in running shoes when I tried this last summer).
I decided to start small today by biking to the CalTrain Station in Mountain View. Perfect since today since today was Spare the Air Day that means free rides till noon. I juuuuuust missed the 7:57 train…literally it pulled away as I ran to it.
Luckily the next train was at 8:05 and was not really crowded at all. Also missing the last train let me know which car was the bike one (I could also have followed all the ppl with bikes). Luckily it was not crowded at all and I was getting off in 2 stops so small mistakes on my part weren’t magnified (like not putting a tag on my bike…I finally get why they do that now)
All in all it took me from 7:40 am to 8:20 am to get into work, I think if I had made that first train I could have been in by 8:10.
That’s not too bad. We’ll see how it compares to riding the whole way back home (I plan to do that after work).
Friday:
Iron Man hosted by Palantir. Tony Stark is the Engineer’s engineer. Favorite quote, “TONY STARK BUILT IT IN A CAVE… WITH SCRAPS!”
To those who have yet to see it…stay till the end of the credits.
So after much asking of when’s your next post, here it is.
I’ve been pretty busy the past few months working, etc so I haven’t had much time to write recently.
Here’s the basic rundown on what’s been going on.
Work for a good 80% of the time. Release deadlines were coming up soon so I’d been mostly doing work.
Palantir Ski Trip: Tiff and I went up to Tahoe with the company and got in a couple days of snowboarding (I got in 2 days, Tiff bruised herself a bit the first day and took the 2nd day off). It was a pretty awesome time, props to the ops team for stocking the 5 cabins so well.
Palantir Wine Trip: Tiff and I again went up for a day of wine tasting with the company. Again with the drinking.
Palantir Warriors Game: My first bball game. Fun, but I thought it would have been noisier. Maybe it’s because the Warriors got knocked out of the playoffs. I did get some free fried chicken things since they scored over 100.
Yoga: Tiff and I are trying out the yoga place down the street from my work. They currently have an introductory thing where it’s $40 for 30 days of unlimited yoga. Bikram is very warm and causes much sweating. Bringing a frozen drink is recommended!
Photography: I gave in and got a dslr. The small and least expensive Nikon D40 is now my tool of learning. It’s now also armed with the moderately expensive Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. Now all I need is a flash and I’ll probably be set for a while.
Entertainment: Jdramas have been the new TV shows for us. They’re nice in that they end in 10-14 episodes. Just finished Lunch no Joou and possibly moving on to Hotaru no Hikari next. If you have suggestions let me know.
Misc: It’s wedding season or something. This summer we will be attending at least 2 weddings with the possibility of that number going up to 5 by the end of this year.
This past weekend Palantir was gracious enough to get everyone tickets to the Russell Peters show at The Improv in San Jose.
If you don’t know who he is, stop reading now and watch this.
Generally the comedians get better as the night goes on and in this case the opening comedians did a pretty good job warming us up with the exception of one of them. I’m not sure if it just wasn’t his night or what. His timing or pacing just wasn’t very on and he kept pushing his HBO comedy show that was going to be on after the Superbowl. He had his moments, but I think everyone was ready to move on to the main event.
I suggest you all go watch Russell live if you ever get a chance. It was obvious the guy was comfortable up there and he was really great at involving the audience and working those elements into his act. He still does a lot of the jokes centering around racial stereotypes, but this time he’s working in other things involving disabilities as well. I understand that saying it like that is probably making most of you guys go “WTF? That’s wrong man!” Well too bad I don’t really do it justice so just go watch it sometime. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.
